上周报道了最新付费Wordpress主题模板Omni，说明此模板在IE6下无法发挥其PNG文件特性等一些评论。并在发表后在HACK WORDPRESS提出疑问。我们的朋友——模板的原作者Bryan今天在《付费主题Omni Wordpress Theme》留下了他的解释。
I understood when I developed the Omni Themes that .png images would not show up on IE6, but made the decision that very few people in the US or even abroad still use ie6 and honestly don’t care if people using ie6 can’t see png images… basically I took the approach that people should get with the standards and if you’re still using an extremely old version of ie you should upgrade to Firefox or Safari or at least at the minimum upgrade to the latest ie.
At one point I used to design for everyone, but at some point you have to make a stand and say… “get with the times”. I’m sure as hell not going to design themes for people living in the middle ages.
The themes are xhtml compliant, widget ready, WordPress 2.5 compatible and are extremely easy to modify even with the slightest bit of html knowledge.
I hope you enjoy the themes and at least take a look at some of the most innovative WordPress themes on the net.

作为一个收费模板，无法兼容IE6、IE7、FF的话，那么其市场必定会受到影响。如果真像作者所说的，无需考虑那30.1%的用户，那就意味着你的客户会减少30.1%，而你客户的访问者也会减少30.1%。OMG，这样算下来，你模板推广直接损失是多少？（我数学不好，不知道这个要开多少个平方了）模板其他的方面确实做得不错，样式和配色方面……不过w3c和匹配wp2.5我想现在看来是最起码的吧，即使不是收费模板也该尽量做到的。
希望作者以后能够多考虑全世界30%的网民，不要陶醉在自己的“新技术”世界里了。

Hey Bryan, my friend, so happy if you come & see this post. What I will say, en… just please check browser statistics that we still 30.1% IE6 users since last month (Mar/2008). 30.1% people still living in the middle ages (maybe one of your neighbors). Omni, a premium wordPress theme, that should be like this time. Basiclly， you may want to make some profit from this theme, but it will lost nearly 30% profit. Your customers may lost 30% faithful visiters. Sounds awful, a? But this will be happened. Please think more for the people who living in the “Middle ages”, and dunt be intoxicated by your own innovation.

Ok. So maybe I was a little harsh about the Middle Ages quote. I agree that all sites generally should be created with as many people, platforms and browsers in mind, but I tried to create the theme so people could updated background colors and not lose the nice look with the images that are used. To do this I used some .png images. I’m sure there’s a way to do it with .gif images too, but I’m not sure how to do that so any tips would be appreciated.
I will say that 30% is still quite a large number, however the trend year over year has seen a drop of around 10 - 20% for ie6 use. This would indicate that by 2009 the browser will be virtually obsolete. I do appreciate your response and will definitely take it into consideration and look into some options. So far this is the first blog or report I’ve seen of anyone mentioning the ie6 thing, but again I do appreciate the feedback and will definitely take it into consideration.
